Christian Freedom

Freedom is one of the greatest possessions any society can have.  For this freedom men and women have given their precious lives on foreign soil.  Also, for this freedom, men and women continue to put themselves in harms way.  The freedom we have as Americans is our most prized possession.  But, there is a greater freedom than American freedom.  Christian freedom is worth more and cost more than any other freedom.

Freedom from Sin.  The freedom from sin cost our Heavenly Father His Dear Son.  “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16).  Since Christ did die for our sins, we can now have freedom from sin in Christ.  “And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness” (Rom. 6:18).  Paul further elaborates on our freedom and says, “Stand fast therefore, in the liberty by which Christ has made us free and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage” (Gal. 5:1).  Real freedom is about knowing that we have escaped the consequences and guilt of our sin through Jesus Christ.  Jesus Himself said, “Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).  This 4th of July, don’t just think about your freedom as an individual and a nation, but think about the marvelous freedom we have as Christians.

Do you have the freedom and peace that comes through Jesus?  If not, you can be free.  The Bible teaches that if one will obey the Gospel he can be free from sin to serve God (Rom. 6:17).  If you will believe in Jesus (John 8:24), repent of your old life (Lk. 13:3), confess the Savior before men (Rom. 10:10, Matt. 10:32-33), and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:38; Mk. 16:16) you can possess real freedom that no man can ever take away!
