What the Bible Tells Us About Baptism

Some teach "Baptism" is only necessary to join to a church (usually denominational one) as a "formality" or "tradition". Some say "Baptism" is sprinkling. Neither is correct. You cannot be buried by sprinkling. Baptism never was used to join a person to a particular denomination or group. These groups did not exist during the days of the apostles.

What the Bible states about Baptism:

Buried into Christ's death-Ro 6:3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

Connected to Christ in being buried with Christ raised up by faith in the working of God-Col 2:12 having been buried with Him (Christ) in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him (Christ) through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 2Ti 2:11 It is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;

We are inside Christ-Ga 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

We are born again-John 3:3-5 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus *said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?" Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God

If the above has taken place we are saved-Mr 16:16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.1Pe 3:21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you--not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,-Faith in working of God-Col 2:12.

Why? Because we were Baptized For the forgiveness of sins-Ac 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

To have our sins washed away. Ac 22:16 'Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.'

Results of Baptism:.

We have a new Life, a follower of Christ-Ro 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

We enter the body (the church) of Christ-1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body

Baptism is the point which sins are washed away and you now belong to Christ-Romans 6:17-19 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

The Bible is clear about the purpose of baptism and the point at which one becomes a Christian.

You are baptized to be forgiven; not because you already were forgiven.

You are baptized into Christ; not because you were already in Christ.

You are baptized to be born again; not because you were already born again.

Do not wait to be baptized; your salvation depends on it!
